I use Firefox as my main browser, and Songbird as my main mediaplayer. I prefer Songbird as a mediaplayer because of all its featrues and addons. The point with Songbird is to make the browser obsolete, by combining media player and browser in one. For me it doesnt work that way though. The brwoser part of songbird isn't customisable enough to replace Firefox in my daily use. But it's a very nice mediaplayer though and I would like to keep it as my default.
Can I still keep the integrated mediaplayer / browser experience when using Firefox? Yes, we can. Using an addon for Firefox called Foxytunes you can control a series of popular media players directly through your firefox status bar. One problem arises though, Foxytunes doesn't support Songbird. Don't worry, a quick fix is her.
Click the "foxytunes main menu"
Here you will recieve a popup window asking you to configure your generic player.
Choose the "Windows Media Player 8" preset. You're all set.
Fireup Songbird and start controlling it from your Firefox statusbar. If you like me use Spotify when you want to listen to music not in your offline collection... You can control spotify with the same presets!
Have you got a favorite media player not supported by Foxytunes? Found out how to control it? Share your solution in the comments!
